Nigeria: Unemployment – Cooperative Society to Revolutionize Agriculture in 36 States, FCT


As part of its contribution to tackling the scourge of unemployment in the country, the National Agricultural Mechanization Cooperative of Nigeria, NAMCON, is set to establish Agricultural Extension Service Centers in Nigeria in 528 Local Government Areas in across 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. , FCT.

The objective of the program is to provide direct employment to 15 young people per local area as operators, technical personnel and agricultural extension service personnel.

Therefore, the body has prioritized five key focus areas consisting of the Nigeria Mechanized Agro-Extension Service Scheme, Women Nurturing Birds for Wealth Empowerment Program, Nigeria Agro Market Space, Strategic Skill Acquisition Program and Farmers House, a project of mass housing for farmers in rural dwellings.

“We are here today to take another bold step towards history, towards unlocking the agricultural sector and to see how we can maximize the hidden potentials of the agricultural sector.

“This program is strategically designed to take advantage of the opportunities available in the poultry value chain, to create employment opportunities for our women. You will agree with me that over 80% of our women are still at the home and do not work, hence the essence of this program.

“For us at NAMCON, we created this system for women who can be at home and still take care of their families and earn money to support the family, and that’s the origin women cultivating the bed for wealth. It’s basically about empowering women,” he said.

NAMCON, under the Women Nurturing for Wealth Empowerment program, will train 60,000 women and youth across the country, with the goal of producing 125 million birds annually.
