Odisha Lokayukta orders CID probe into embezzlement of ₹207 cr in milk producers cooperative | Latest India News

The Orissa State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (OMFED) is a higher level dairy cooperative society inspired by Amul. Launched in 1982, it is Odisha’s leading organized milk producer providing livelihood to rural farmers and milk producers.

The Odisha Lokayukta has ordered an investigation by the state CID into allegations of misappropriation of 207 crores in the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Farmers Federation popularly known as Omfed over a period of 4 years.


Disposing of a request from lawyer Priyadarshan Patnaik, who in October 2020 filed a complaint before Lokayukta citing a special audit which informed of an alleged misappropriation of 207 crores between 2013-14 and 2017-18, the Lokayukta said it was ordering an investigation by the Additional Chief Executive of the CID under Section 20(1) of the Odisha Lokayukta Act.

“With the serious allegations made in the complaint, which are based on a special audit report dated January 15, 2019, Odisha Lokayukta directs the Additional Director General of Police, CID, to conduct a preliminary investigation to determine whether he There is a prima facie case for pursuing the case against any official. The additional DG would ensure compliance with the provisions of Section 20(2) of the Lokayukta Act,” the order reads.

Patnaik had filed a complaint with the Lokayukta after no action was taken against errant OMFED officials following a special audit in 2019. In his complaint, he alleged that the amount granted by the Center had been misappropriated by some officials.
