Statement from Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative on McKalip’s Appointment as Agricultural Negotiator

Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative today released the following statement regarding President Biden’s intention to appoint Doug McKalip as Chief Agriculture Negotiator in the Office of the United States Trade Representative. The announcement was made on Wednesday.

“Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative is delighted to see that the Biden administration has selected a likely candidate for the key position of chief agricultural negotiator at the USTR. This role is essential to growing new international markets for the food our farmers produce and securing fair trade agreements. These are essential to ensure the long-term health of the dairy community. Doug McKalip’s experience in agricultural policy and trade at the Department of Agriculture will be very useful to our farmers. We look forward to supporting him in this mission.”

McKalip background:

Since March 2021, McKalip has served as Senior Advisor to Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack on trade, national security, animal and phytosanitary regulations, and domestic and international issues. McKalip previously held a management position in the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Biotechnology Regulatory Services. He served as senior adviser to the secretary of agriculture, acting chief of staff at the USDA, and senior adviser for agriculture and rural affairs on the White House Domestic Policy Council during the Obama administration.
